Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.
Acrobatic Arts Pre School Programme
This curriculum focuses on physical literacy. You can expect to find skills like: Pike Position, Skipping, Marching, Pre Cartwheel, Plié, Tendu, etc. The focus of this program includes learning the acro positions, locomotive skills (jumping, hoping, etc), balance skills, classroom behaviour skills, movement concepts, cooperation and social skills. The magic is in the repetition, the report cards, coloring pages, imaginary play, fun and games.
With over 13,000 members’ spread across 83 countries, The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world. Their mission, “We exist to promote and enhance knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally by educating and training teachers and students and by providing examinations to reward achievement, so preserving and extending the rich, artistic and educational value of dance for future generations.” A beautiful, disciplined yet graceful syllabus, students have the ability to progress through examinations from Pre Primary up to Advanced 2.
Aimed at the over 18’s that always dreamed of being a ballerina. In a friendly learning environment, ladies have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of ballet technique and have some fun. Leotard optional, a wonderful opportunity to live the dream of becoming a ballerina.
Contemporary explores the connection of the entire body through movement. Contract and release, floor work, improvisation and fall and release are all elements of contemporary dance. Students will explore all these avenues as well as the technical aspects of this genre. It is a very expressive genre allowing students to express emotions through experimentation.
Hip hop’s freestyle movements come from a wide range of styles. Popping, locking, breaking, krumping and even lyrical will all be explored in this fun genre. Hip hop is great for fitness and a great introduction for students wanting to explore the world of dance.
Little Ballerinas and Little Danseurs
Babies ballet is aimed at the 2-4 year olds who love the idea of dressing in a tutu or pants and love being a ballerina. This class is designed to teach the students the foundations of ballet and beginning to learn the structure of set exercises, to prepare for grade work. Students are encouraged to wear tutu’s or leotard and tights to begin the foundation of discipline but also to allow the children to use their imaginations.
Modern / Lyrical
Modern/lyrical is a very important genre for students studying dance through their HSC and also aiming to join ballet companies. It combines the technique of classical ballet with the freedom of contemporary dance. Currently one of the most popular forms of dance, modern/lyrical allows students to express feelings and emotions through technical movements translating dance into stories.
Petite pointers is aimed and children aged 2-4 years of age who have the dance bug. Dancing to songs from their favourites like “The Wiggles” and “High 5”, children are encouraged to express themselves through dance and have a great time with friends.
Stretch and Conditioning
A body conditioning programme that is highly recommended to ALL students, particularly those participating in RAD ballet exams. S & C builds flexibility, core strength, endurance and all over body conditioning. It places emphasis on correct postural alignment and control whilst the body travels through movement. Classes are open to Junior, Intermediate and Senior students.
Tap at Turning Pointe’s aim is to develop rhythm, musicality and sound. Students will learn many styles within tap ranging from Broadway tap focusing on performance to rhythm tap concentrating more on technique and musicality. Tap is fun but also a great way for students to develop their musical skills.
At TPD we have a Junior, Intermediate and Senior troupe class. This is an opportunity for students who wish to perform through the year in competitions as a group. Students with a high standard of technique and performance will be invited to join in TPD’s troupe. There are additional costs if students wish to participate in troupes through the year.
Jazz incorporates flexibility, fitness and fun! Offering a board range of styles from commercial to Broadway, Jazz give the students freedom to explore many aspects of this genre. Paired with correct stretching and performance technique, Jazz is a fun genre available to all ages and abilities.
